Earth Birth Doula Service is family owned and operated. It was founded by Lisa Fuimaono - McDonald in 2001.

After the birth of my first child in 1999, I felt called to help other pregnant women / new mom's. For much of my pregnancy I felt very alone, especialy while attending doctor visits. Fortunately, my doctor did me a favor and refused to see me, after Medi Cal failed to cover my prenatal visits. I called a local county run refferal service and was given two numbers to call. The lady on the line said she heard they were both helpful in dealing with Medi Cal. I called the numbers and found that they were both to midwifery services. I decided to make an appointment with Best Start Birth Center (located in San Diego, CA). It was one of the best things that could have ever happened! They introduced me to women centered care, water birth and safe out of hospital birth. With their help and the help of my "Doula" / Mother in law, I gave birth to a beautiful little boy. That experience forever changed me and was the first step in my journey towards helping women. I began helping pregnant women in need find information, clothes ect. Still, I wanted to do more. In 2001, I became pregnant with my second child. My husband was hired by Amazon.com, and so we relocated to Fernley, NV. Upon our arrival, I was able to become a stay at home Mom. I immediately began my search for a midwife. While searching, I came across the term "Doula". I had never heard of a Doula before. I continued to research this newfound idea, and decided it was just what I hoped to do. I found a wonderful Midwife, Debbie Harmon, who encouraged me in my quest for knowledge. She even attended a Doula training with me, though it was review to her. In December of 2001, I attended my first birth as a Doula! Since then, I have continued to attend births, pursue further education and experience as a Doula and Independant Childbirth Educator. I have even begun to assist my Midwife at some of her clients births. I am commited to and feel as though I have truely been "called" to serve Women in their time of need.
